TerraFly Geospatial System for Disaster Mitigation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Florida International University’s (FIU’s) secondphase CREST, the Center for Innovative Information Systems Engineering is housed in its School of Computing and Information Sciences and its Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The Center’s four research thrusts bring together a multidisciplinary group of researchers, large-scale collaborative relationships, and a broad ecosystem of partners to perform research that will lead to information technologies that help to solve critical societal problems of national priority. TerraFly users visualize aerial imagery, precise street name overlays, and various other overlays. Users virtually "fly" over imagery via a web browser, without any software to install or plug in. Tools include user-friendly geospatial querying, data drilldown, real-time data suppliers, demographic analysis, annotation, customizable applications, route dissemination via autopilots, production of aerial atlases, and application programming interface (API) for web sites.

Geospatial Intelligence: Data Integration and Management Issues
Geospatial data and technology is required in every phase of disaster management –prevention, mitigation, response and recovery (Sorenson, 1990). Disaster management requires the full integration of and harnessing of what has been called "the distributed intelligence of the Nation." This research paper highlights two issues related to knowledge management and acquisition using a four faceted ap...
متن کاملA web-based spatial data access system using semantic R-trees
With the increasing use of geographical data in real-world applications, Geographic Information Systems (GISs) have recently emerged as a fruitful area for research. In order to provide information to a multitude of users, the World Wide Web (WWW) techniques have been integrated into GISs. A high-performance webbased GIS, called TerraFly, has been developed in order to provide web-based GIS acc...
متن کاملStrategies to Prepare Emergency Management Personnel to Integrate Geospatial Tools into Emergency Management
Emergency management is a diverse field. Effective disaster management involves knowledge of various subjects as well as work experience in all aspects related to mitigation, planning, response, and recovery efforts. One field not being fully exploited by disaster management is the use of geospatial tools in the form of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), cartography, and geovisualization. On...
متن کاملDisaster Risk Reduction in Agriculture through Geospatial (Big) Data Processing
Intensive farming on land represents an increased burden on the environment due to, among other reasons, the usage of agrochemicals. Precision farming can reduce the environmental burden by employing site specific crop management practices which implement advanced geospatial technologies for respecting soil heterogeneity. The objectives of this paper are to present the frontier approaches of ge...
متن کاملThe Use of Geospatial Technology in Disaster Management
The daily use of geospatial technology, such as the global positioning system (GPS), geographic information systems (GIS), and remote sensing (RS), is increasing. The use of geospatial technology in disaster management is a natural fit because almost every aspect of a disaster is referenced by location. This paper presents the results of a recent web-based survey of disaster management practiti...
